The Badke players, too, are keen to convey the detail of the two composers’ string writing, sometimes taking their time over phrases or adopting more relaxed tempos to linger over particular moments. They dare to play simply, with a warm lyricism – particularly in an amiable opening movement to the Mozart Quintet – and their careful, balanced playing brings a welcome transparency to the thick textures of the Brahms Quintet’s first movement.
